Latest Updates from Our Project:

Books have shipped!!!
about 1 year ago – Thu, Mar 09, 2023 at 10:39:25 AM

Hi!

Books came in yesterday and I got them shipped out this morning. You should have gotten an email with a tracking number if you ordered anything physical. Otherwise, you should have gotten emails from Backerkit with your downloadable files. If you lost your survey or link, you can go here and have them send you a new one.

https://obsidian2.backerkit.com/

With that, this campaign is officially fulfilled.  Now, I'm off to eye surgery.

Hope you love the books!

If you're looking for even more awesomeness, I'm working with two awesome publishers on projects this month. The first is a softcover reprint campaign for Cthulhu is Hard to Spell, reprinting the first volume and first half of the second volume as glorious softcover editions.

Backerkit link

If you're wondering why you haven't heard much about this one, it's because the publisher is running it through Backerkit instead of Kickstarter, so it doesn't show up in any searches or anything, but it's pretty incredible what they've done, and I have written a new story for these editions. featuring the backstory of the original volume 1 cover.

Because I clearly never sleep, I have been working with a publisher for the past few years about producing a card game from Ichabod Jones Monster Hunter, and that game launches next Wednesday!

Notification link

The campaign launches next Wednesday and this one is a banger! Wredespiele has been working on this game for years.

I knew it would be good, but I had no idea it would be this good. They sent me a prototype a few weeks ago and I am so in love.

My wife and I finally played it and it's sooo fun, y'all. I am so proud of what they made.

It maintains the mechanics from the book and is a complete psychological mindscrew of a game.

I didn't know how they would make everything work, but they did and it's amazing!!!

It's like Uno meets Werewolf meets War meets a bit of Solitaire mixed in, plus some completely mental twists that you're going to love.

This is a quick, fun, fast-paced co-opish game. If you're looking for something you can play with a group or alone, I highly recommend you check this one out.

Here's a picture I took of the prototype they sent me.

Thank you so much for believing in this project. I hope you love the books and are excited to join me again behind the backer wall.

Backerkit surveys are out! + How to download digital books

This post is for backers only. Please visit Kickstarter.com and log in to read.

THANK YOU!!!!!!
about 1 year ago – Fri, Feb 17, 2023 at 09:07:18 AM

WOOOOW!!!! This was our second best novel campaign ever!!!!

Thank you so much for joining me on this journey. I've already set up and asked for the review from Backerkit. My hope is to be able to send out these surveys next week.

PLEASE NOTE: If you have ordered books that come with a choice PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE answer your survey promptly when you receive them b/c it affects the order with so many books. Until I get a good sense of how many books I need of each I can't place an order. I would love to place an order by the end of next week.

Complementary credits

When you get your survey you might see you have complementary credits. That is likely because ordered something from the add-on menu that should be added to your cart.

However, this campaign several of you ordered things that were already included in your order, and so I gave you additional credit to get something else from the store. If you would prefer a refund, I can try to make that happen, but it takes a little effort so if you can find something from the store, I appreciate it.

I also have a promo on one of my books through my newsletter this month and I didn't even realize it until after some people bought, so if you bought the Dragon Scourge ebook, then you should receive a $5 credit for to pick up something else from our store.

If you have a problem with your credit, please email [email protected] and we can help you out, but by this point I think I've figured out how to use Backerkit's weird backend.

My hope is to get these books out ASAP. However, I have eye surgery next Thursday, and then jury duty the following week, so I might be less able to do things depending on how those go until March.

Thank you again!!!!!

I'll hopefully have an update for you early next week when I can release the Backerkit surveys!

Just a few days left :)
about 1 year ago – Mon, Feb 13, 2023 at 06:03:42 AM

Hi!

There's just a few days left of our campaign, and I'm so excited to share these books with you. Simply by backing this campaign up until this point, you've locked in these rewards, which will be delivered one the campaign ends through Backerkit.

We also have a few godcoins left in the add-on menu and through the reward tiers. I'm not planning to manufacture these coins again, so if you want to lock one of them in, then now is the time.

If you're a digital backer, you will be able to pick these up through Backerkit, but if you are a physical backer then you can pick them up right now.

Sorry about that, digital backers. It's a weird quirk of the system that prevents me from making them available for you on Kickstarter. You can pick them up along with four/eight ebooks of your choice at the $36 and $56 pledge levels.

Otherwise, I usually fulfill quickly, and even though I'm going in for eye surgery on the 23rd and then have jury duty the following week, I still plan on fulfilling this campaign in March. Your digital rewards might even come at the tail end of February.

Look forward to hearing what you think once the campaign ends!

Other projects to check out

Another week and another crop of awesome projects! This will likely be my last update before the end, so this is your last chance to check out all the awesome things I've found for you!

Power Broker #1-4

Thirty years ago, the secret to super powered abilities was unlocked. Geneticists were hailed as heroes, as the promise of a new age of human achievement shined bright. Instead, their work was quickly commercialized, and the foundation of society buckled beneath the deluge of black market super-powered beings. In response, a task force of professional supermen was commissioned to police the city of Potentia and neutralize this growing threat--they call themselves POWER BROKERS.

Kickstarter link

I have already shared one of Unlikely Heroes Studios projects this campaign, but I just love their stuff. They are launching a reprint campaign for Cthulhu is Hard to Spell next week, in fact, and we have a couple other campaigns planned with year.  I love Laurie's eye and everything they put out.

Is'nana the Were-Spider: Drums of Ogoun

Accidentally breaking a barrier between our world and theirs (called THE MOTHER KINGDOM), Is'nana (the son of Anansi the Spider God of Stories) accepts the responsibility for releasing creatures of horror into our reality, villains who want nothing more but to cause chaos and mayhem to achieve their own diabolical or selfish goals. With guidance from his father, Is'nana not only strives to live up to his father's name but to also reach his own potential while he seeks to discover his individuality and place in the world.

After being awoken by mysterious nightmares, Is’nana finds himself plagued by the drumming of the Haitian Loa and Orisha God of War and Iron, Ogoun. A night of chaos ensues as the God of War tests Is’nana’s mettle in a series of challenges, such as zombies...

A monster taming fantasy novel & audiobook - Storm Totem

Across the land, the power of the great totems is failing. Fanatical cultists are on the warpath for the first time in a thousand years, spreading chaos on a crusade of vengeance.

A storm is coming. And Kellen and Vex are right in its path.

The eagerly awaited sequel to the Kickstarter smash hit, Beast Mage!

If you like Pokémon, Digimon, Avatar: The Last Airbender, or just awesome fantasy books, you've come to the right place.

What happens when you know the whole world wants to defeat you?

It's simple: you fight the world!

Nothing is stronger than love, except a bullet in the face.

Sometimes you can't choose, though. Sometimes you can only follow your instincts and face the consequences.

But the Dragon fears no one.

Brant is an amazing creator and always doing cool stuff. This one is no exception.

I saw this launched as I was doing prep for this newsletter and it's such a fun story I had to include it. Caleb is such an amazing creator and I love his work. His stories are bonkers in the best ways.

The Obsidian Spindle Saga campaign ends in just a few days!
about 1 year ago – Wed, Feb 08, 2023 at 12:59:47 PM

Hi!

Just wanted to let you know that there are only a few days left in the Kickstarter for the second arc of my favorite novel series, The Obsidian Spindle Saga!

Kickstarter link

Do you adore fairy tales? Are you obsessed with mythology?Do you flip for portal fantasy?

Then you'll love The Obsidian Spindle Saga.

This is my favorite series I've ever written.

It contains several of my favorite books that I've ever written. Everyone who has read it has told me the second arc is better than the first arc. If you have not read this series, and you love my work, then you will absolutely ADORE this series. If you have known of my work and been waiting to try something, then this is my best work.

This series will ONLY be available on Kickstarter until the series is wrapped, and I won't be offering them again until the next time the series launches on Kickstarter (except for a few extra copies left over from this campaign).

Plus, we have a very special bonus for everyone who backs at $100 for all four new books. They receive this amazing Godcoin pulled right from the pages of The Obsidian Spindle Saga.  You can also get it at the $36 and $56 levels which comes with a bunch of ebooks, and from the add-on menu for physical backers.

Kickstarter link

Fairy tales are real.

Rose Briar is a diabetic college student without insurance.

She’s been scraping by through a combination of maxing out credit cards and relying upon the kindness of strangers.

Unfortunately, she’s spent every dollar at her disposal. There’s no money left to buy her life-saving insulin.

Without her medication, Rose falls into a diabetic coma. She tumbles into a deep slumber and wakes up in a fantastical place called the Dream Realm, where fairy tales and legends of old are still very much alive.

She has one chance to wake up.

She must trek across the world, visit the most powerful object in the land, the Obsidian Spindle, and entreat with the fates; the only beings powerful enough to send her soul back to Earth.

But evil forces don’t want her to leave.

They will stop at nothing to capture her and make sure she never goes home again.

Now, with the help of her half-gorgon girlfriend and a mysterious red rider, Rose must race across the land fighting dragons, monsters, and the forces of the Wicked Witch, Nimue, in order to reach the Obsidian Spindle before her body dies on Earth and she’s trapped in the Dream Realm forever.

Will she be able to wake up? Can she survive? That is the genesis of the Obsidian Spindle Saga (TOSS), and the first book The Sleeping Beauty.

This is my most ambitious project ever, and represents the last five years of my creative effort. Every moment I wasn't working on The Godsverse Chronicles or Ichabod Jones was spent inside this universe.

Kickstarter link

We're also extending week 3 perks through this weekend. So, everyone who backs by Sunday gets digital copies of Lucky Logan by J.R. Frontera, Justicar Jhee and the Cursed Abbey by Trevol Swift, TJ & the Orishas by Antoine Bandele, Regeneration by Cassie Gruetman, and The Vessel by MEEEEEE!!!

I am so super excited for this series. I can't wait to share it with you.

Hope to see you again behind the backer wall.

-Russell
